Welcome to Bradwell Silver Band
Bradwell Silver Band was founded on January 15th 1901 and can proudly claim that it has been in continuous existence for well over a century. Most of the original members lived in what was then rural North Buckinghamshire villages of Bradwell and Stantonbury and were employed at the London and North Western Railway Works in neighbouring Wolverton. These areas were later renamed Old Bradwell and New Bradwell respectively and although both areas retain their identities, they are now very much a part of the ever expanding development that is Milton Keynes. The railway works ceased to be a major employer by the 1980s and today’s membership is drawn from a cross section of trades and professions.
As we wave goodbye to 2017 and welcome in 2018 Bradwell Silver Band embark on practice for contesting season. Now we have to hone our musical skills ready to compete. We start on Saturday 24th February at Marlborough School in the fantastic surroundings of Woodstock in Oxfordshire, the home of Blenheim Palace. We can't tell you what we will be performing, that remains a secret until the day but be sure our Musical Director, Brian Keech, will be striving for musical mastery in the interpretation of our test-piece. We then look forward to improving yet again on our great performance last year when we enter the Area Contest on Sunday 18th March 2018 in Stevenage. A good performance there could see promotion in the sections.
Then it's on to April when we have two great concerts lined up. Saturday 21st April is the date for the first of our visits to St James Church in New Bradwell and Saturday 28th April sees the band perfom in Potterspury. We look forward to seeing you there.
